UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF WORK

Work is an activity involving the physical and mental effort done in order to achieve a purpose or a result.

Work can also be defined as the ability to function or operate according to plan or design. Biblically, Work is related intimately with our identity with God as we are made in His Image and in His likeness.

We are simply replicating our Father when we work and have dominion.

“Genesis 1: 26-27. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

Work has to do with our external actions or deeds – Matthew 5: 16. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Work helps us to fulfil our purposes in life. We also work in order to sustain ourselves and provide for ourselves and our family’s needs.

Work did not come as a result of sin as some do believe; God’s intention was for man to work from the beginning. God planted a garden and put man in it to work and manage the garden -Gen 2:8.

Sin changed the pleasurable and satisfying work of man to become a struggle and like a punishment.

Therefore, We must understand that when we work, we are actually responding to the divine will of God. Therefore, it is the divine will of our Father that we all work.

We are created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Find joy in the work you do for the Lord.

Peace and joy I pray you as you give your self to the work of Christ.
