Psalms 92:12-15 –  “12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; 15. To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”

The Bible clearly uses words that differentiates between those who chose to walk in the will of God and those who decide not to, you read words like the righteous and the unrighteous, the wise and the foolish, the sheep and the goats; and also the use of the palm tree and the grass. The righteous is one who has been made righteous by the salvation work of Jesus Christ and is likened to the palm tree which is enduring, fruitful and lastinlgy flourishes; while the unrighteous is likened to the grass which states that even their works of iniquity sometimes flourishes but eventually withers away.

Therefore, the first journey to the world of fruitfulness is to Be Planted and to grow as a Palm tree which flourishes and not to grow as grass that springs up and withers away so quickly. {Ps 92:7}

The symbolic understanding of the palm tree:

  1. The Palm tree Grows from within because it is an endogen and it grows powerfully upward – meaning the righteous grows from within, from the spirit man to the outward man.
  2. The Palm tree is fruitful and useful – producing food and other resources for the economy of man – the righteous is a blessing to the world being fruitful and useful to God and to man.
  3. The Palm tree is elastic and bendable – The righteous are teachable and bendable in the hands of God, they readily listens to learn and sees not themselves as knowing all more than others but rather always learning from others; the righteous has an open heart to the dynamic nature of the Holy Spirit
  4. The Palm tree is enduring especially during storms – storms don’t overcome the righteous but the righteous overcome the storms, that is patiently enduring through faith in God and overcoming all challenges.
  5. The Palm tree provides shelter for those who come under it – people are safe around the righteous, they are dependable and reliable because of the Spirit of God dwelling in them.
  6. The Palm tree is very strong and lasts fruitfully from generations to generations unlike the grass that withers away – the righteous is fruitful because he enjoys the covenant of fruitfulness, he does not only bring forth fruits in old age but bears fruits that last from generation to generation.
  7. The Palm tree represents royalty – The Palm branches were used in welcoming Christ into Jerusalem – the righteous are kings and priests of God “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth” Revelation 5:10

Isaiah 65: 22. “They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.” {God’s people grow as trees and not as grass}

Fruitfulness: it means abounding in fruits; bearing fruits abundantly. It is the quality or state of being fertile. Biblically, True fruitfulness begins in the heart with the fruit of the Spirit. John 15: 8. “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.”

Christian Fruitfulness is a symbol of spiritual maturity and well-being as described in Gal 5:22-23

It is the result of the Holy Spirit’s activity in the life of a Christian believer

Fruitfulness is the life of Christ flowing through the believer to the world : eg {being a light and blessing to the world}

Christian Fruitfulness is Christ likeness – the more Jesus increases in us the more we produce fruits that honors and glorifies God

Fruitfulness is important and key to the heart of God and Unfruitfulness is intolerable – John 15: 2. “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”

Christian Fruitfulness also means being useful and reliable to God and also to the body of Christ.

We must desire for the fruitfulness that is according to God’s standard and His Will because it is not by hard work but by God who gives the grace to bear the fruits.

Fruitfulness is about our relationship with Jesus {Do you have one with Him?}

Right Attitude – This is the character of Jesus Christ, it is the desire of God for His people, God’s expectation from His children, the right attitude means obedience to God’s Instruction and commandments.

Ephesians 4:23 AMPC “And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude],”

To constantly renew our mind transforms us to act in the right attitude that pleases the heart of God.

The Right Attitudes that leads to fruitfulness

Fruitfulness is by the power and grace upon the believer to bear fruits that honors and glorifies God; the believer also needs to have the Right Attitude to receive in full and enjoy seasons of fruitfulness. A believer that is constantly walking with the wrong attitudes will hardly experience the fruitfulness of God.

1. The Attitude of Love: Having the Genuine love of Christ for God and for others leads to fruitfulness. We are to bear fruits in and with the love of Christ. We live in the times where hatred thrives more than love, the more reason why the righteous of God must continue to act genuinely in the love of Christ to the world by showing to the world what true love is.

1 Corinthians 13:3. “And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”

Whatever we do must be done as unto the Lord, born out of His love in us.

Love conquers all. Love is powerful and is the First fruit of the Holy Spirit that all other fruits springs from: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith” , Galatians 5: 22.

You cannot walk in the love of Christ and not be a fruit bearer that pleases the heart of God. Because Your outward actions will be born out of the condition of your inward heart

2.The Attitude of Faith:  Faith plays a significant role in the work of Fruitfulness.

Romans 9: 32 – “Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;”

In as much as bearing fruits is important, it must be done by faith in Christ. You cannot bear fruits by yourself except you believe and abide in the Vine – John 15:4-5.

Our Faith and Trust in Christ Jesus leads and guides us into and through seasons of abundant fruitfulness. Seek His will and allow the Holy Spirit guidance always so as to bear fruits that will last.

3. The Attitude of Obedience – When you walk with God by faith in the journey of bearing fruits and being fruitful then you must learn total obedience to His commandments and leadings. Sometimes the leadings of God will seem foolish to our human reasoning but if we trust and obey, we see the awesome results from obeying.

King Saul would have been a great king that ended his reign well if he had totally obeyed God. – 1Sam 13 and 15. God created opportunities and placed Saul in them but he failed through disobedience

John 15: 10. “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”  Obeying God’s commandments and His leading leads to abundance of fruitfulness

4.The Attitude of Humility – One of the great kingdom benefits that a humble man enjoys from God is the more grace that is bestowed upon him by God. God draws close to a humble person and gives attention to him. The more grace he enjoys the more fruitful the humble becomes  – James 4: 6. “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”

Proverbs 22:4. “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.” {Fruitfulness in physical, material and spiritual possessions by Humility}

5. The attitude of the Right Thoughts – Our Thoughts plays major roles in our Christian fruit bearing. Our thoughts shapen our character; our thoughts prepares us for our actions – meaning we act out what we think continously.

Philippians 4:8. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”

Jesus says in Matt 17:20 that by our faith nothing shall be impossible unto you meaning you can do all things if you believe. In Luke 1:37 he says for with God nothing shall be impossible. The problem is we do depend on our ability so much and forget that without Him we can do nothing.

When you think right – You act right – then you bear right fruits.

6. The Attitude of Productivity – Productivity is fruitfulness, that is to keep producing, and to keep multiplying, it is about abundance of good works in Christ Jesus

God wants us to “bear fruit” (John. 15:2), “bear much fruit” (v. 8), and “bear fruit…that will last.” (v.16). However, He takes responsibility for providing all we need to be fruitful (vv. 2,3).

Genesis 1: 28. “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:… .”

Understand we are co~labourers and workers with Christ, you can’t know this and not think of productivity in all you do. Bearing good fruits in Christ will become a passion and a drive.

7. The Attitude of Gratitude and Thankfulness  – An attitude of gratitude is pleasing to God. Being grateful to Him opens doors of great blessings. A grateful heart makes a healthy body.

Being Thankful and giving glory to God opens the doors to unlimited prosperity in every area of our lives. Cultivate the habit of giving thanks always even when we do not see anything happening. It is beautiful when you can say thank you Jesus.

Psalm 67: 5. “Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. 6. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.”

Saying thank you is a fruit of your lips to God.

8. The Attitude of Eternity – Fruitfulness is not for this world alone but primarily for Eternity. So many live for this world alone without little or no thought for their eternity.

when you are conscious of the life after this physical world then you would walk right with God. Bear fruits that will be eternally rewarded, Yes for all we do, shall be rewarded. Crowns shall be given to us for the different kinds of fruits that we bear. Always be conscious of your eternity.

Which of these attitude{s} is part of you and how does it help you in your Christian journey? Love to read your views! God bless.
